New Moon Ghee: The Monthly Ritual You Never Knew You Needed
Kitchen Medicine from Ayurveda
Every month near the New Moon, I invite women into my virtual kitchen to make Ghee and set intentions for the month.
What is ghee? Ghee is super potent clarified butter which in Ayurveda is a super food.
What’s New Moon Ghee? Well, it's simply ghee made during the New Moon and infused with your intentions and gratitude.
Why the New moon? Many rituals are geared towards the full moon and both the full and new moon these are very special from a witchy, biodynamic spiritual perspective. I happen to like making ghee on the new moon.
The new moon is a time of potential, new beginnings, and harnessing the energy for positive change and growth.
A time of endings and beginnings. There are no beginnings without an endings.
For many menopausal women, ghee is a kind of miracle food which they cannot live without. In the world of Ayurveda, ghee is one of three top most important food substances to add to your diet.
This year I’m adding some astrological insights to every new moon ghee gathering based on Vedic Astrology.
I’ve created a new moon ghee calendar for 2025 with easy registrations making scheduling easy, goes straight into your calendar (with the appropriate permissions).
I don’t know about you but if its not in my calendar its not happening.
Why do I need ghee if I’m having menopausal symptoms?
From an Ayurvedic perspective during menopause the body transitions from a heated (pitta) to a dry, cold (vāta) state, causing symptoms like heartburn, hot flushes, and dry skin.
Like that odd season which happens at the beginning of fall after we think the cooler weather has set in and then swings into mid summer heat.
Ghee, known as the elixir of life, has rejuvenative properties, is anti-inflammatory, and serves as an internal lubricant.
As a menopausing woman you want to have some ghee 1 time a day and soon your body will crave it.
Ghee has many amazing nutrients which assist in the reduction of menopausal symptoms.
When Charaka (a predecessor to Hippocrates - the father of Western Medicine) said let food be thy medicine - this is one of the foods he meant.
Probably learned this from the women in his life who made Ghee for food and medicines.
Who is this for?
Women dealing with menopause symptoms either severe or barely there
Women having gut and digestive health issues like constipation or heartburn
Women who are curious about Ayurveda
Women who want to meet others managing menopause naturally
Women who, once bought butter to make ghee but __________ (fill in the blanks 😝)
Can't find the time to make it
Sat in fridge had to used the butter for other things
Seemed too complicated
Forgot how to.
If you've never made ghee or are an old pro, come hang out. Making ghee makes the house smell like popcorn, yummy.
Why make ghee at home instead of buying?
Homemade ghee costs less than store-bought and ensures freshness and proper handling. Store-bought ghee can be expensive. The quality may be compromised during shipping. Making ghee at home only requires the cost of butter and less than an hour of your time.
Who am I? Who is hosting this event?
Hi my name is Chitra pronounced Chih-truh and I am a Doctor of Ayurveda specializing in women's health.
I help peri through post menopausal women who have been dealing with symptoms like hot flashes, brain fog, sleeplessness, lethargy and mood swings.
Not only does their body feel foreign but they feel isolated and unheard, in a medical system which doesn't prioritize women's health, in a society biased against aging.
I love educating women around choices in the Art of Menopausing with the wisdom of Ayurveda.
Putting Ayurvedic wisdom into practice helps women get on with the business of being the magnificent creatures they are. This is what I’m all about.
I will be guiding you over zoom and this is what you’ll need for this gathering:
1 lb unsweetened butter. I prefer organic.
1 pot to melt the butter and make the ghee
Any heat source that you can control examples Stove, Hot plate, Instant Pot
A clean wide mouthed jar for finished ghee like a ball jar used for canning
A spoon
Something to separate the solids from from the melted butter (optional) examples Cheese cloth, Fine metal Strainer
Bonus:
While making the ghee… you will have the opportunity to pick my brain and ask questions about Ayurveda and the Art of Menopausing.
Here are some examples of questions you may want ask:
How do I know if my vata is high or kapha is low?
How do I control anxiety naturally?
What can I do to help my dry hair?
How does Ayurveda view intermittent fasting?
We will also have the opportunity to create focused intentions to infuse the ghee based on the Astrological timing.
That’s all I’ve got for now! I would love to see you there.
There’s no cost to attend.
NOTE: At some point in the middle, I will be shamelessly plugging my next big thing for 5 minutes or less.
Peace,
Chitra
P.S. You don't have to make the ghee... just come hang out and ask questions and set your intention for the next month, using the power of community and new moon for manifestation.

Great article! I love the idea of making ghee at the new moon and infusing it with your intentions for the month ahead. How magical. 🙏😇
As an acupuncturist, I find Ayurveda's description of menopause interesting. According to Chinese medicine, during menopause we experience a natural drying and heating as the Yin fluids wane. Lack of fluids to cool causes heat to rise, in the form of hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and insomnia. I would imagine that even though the theories are different, that the treatments would be similar. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Chitra!
